How post-Corona World will look Like ?

Updated: Mar 2, 2021

Covid-19 spread exponentially from just one country to almost 190 Countries with 100s of thousands of cases Globally (probably millions). Sure its not the only pandemic the humanity has ever seen, but the timing of this Outbreak tells us something about our world and where we are actually heading and how many Global calamities the world can deal with in the future?

On December 31 last year, China alerted WHO to several cases of unusual pneumonia in Wuhan, a port city of 11 million people in the central Hubei province. The virus was unknown.

On January 7, it was identified and named as SARS-COV-2 and the disease is named as COVID-19 by WHO.

As of 2nt April more than 938,000 cases and 47,000 deaths have been reported. And is expected to grow exponentially fast in the coming days. (Update- Finally now as of March 2021 More than 115 Million cases are reported and at least 2.5 Million Deaths have been confirmed)

But perhaps the most important thing than even the death statistics is how we all as a global community have responded to this calamity which is probably more worrying fact than the outbreak which sooner or later will be contained.

Even after repeatedly getting warned by scientists and health organisations, most of the countries took actions too late and even denying the threat in the beginning.

How the World responded to this Outbreak?

The countries around the world responded in a very limited way towards a pandemic which was perhaps one of its kind in 100 Years. Most Countries don't realize how quickly the unthinkable can become reality. And How Quickly the exponential Growth could spread and Consume larger and larger population.

The dedication of scientists, health workers and others around the world is inspiring. But it is governments who determine the context in which they operate, and who steer the public response. Around the world, authorities are being forced to make difficult and complex decisions in this crisis. Mass quarantines of the kinds seen in Wuhan, China and Italy, may not be the only or even the best approach; it appears aggressive testing and contact tracing with some social distancing measures have been effective in countries including Singapore and South Korea.

But Such Testing rates were not actually seen in most countries in fact only few countries are testing enough.

Even US in the beginning was not testing enough. Countries Like India, Bangladesh, Mexico and the Middle East would have even more disastrous scenarios. Cus their testing rates were near nothing compared to what capacities they were having.

the UK appears to have disregarded lessons from elsewhere, and be set on another course. It refuse to Lockdown the country in the beginning. Prime Minister Borris Johnson Himself refused to not shake hands in public meetings. ( Later He Caught the Virus)

India in the beginning even refuse to test symptomatic patients and test on travellers from abroad, simply because the situation wasn't 'SERIOUS ENOUGH'

The Attitude in the beginning in most countries was like "Let China deal with its Misdeed ", Later that became Global Pandemic.

Countries in the beginning could have contained the virus by collaborating with china when the coronavirus cases were just few Hundreds inside the borders of Hubei province of China.

Do Countries failed in a Global Collaboration amid Crisis ?

Both the epidemic itself and the resulting economic crisis are global problems. They can be solved effectively only by global co-operation.

First and foremost, in order to defeat the virus we need to share information globally. That’s the big advantage of humans over viruses. Countries should be willing to share information openly and humbly seek advice, and should be able to trust the data and the insights they receive.

Instead a new Wave of nationalism, racism, blame and Xenophobia starts emerging in many Countries. Specially in neighbouring countries of china such as India and Middle East.

Just after the Outbreak in china when the threat was not enough in india. Indian Media was full of Hate towards Chinese people new wave of Conspiracy theories emerge. Many calling the virus a Biological Weapon. Not just in India but Across the World.

Historian Yuval Noah Harari said we Actually failed in Collaborating together amid this crisis, Which he call "Worst Pandemic in 100 Years"

He said :

This is the prize for the rise of a Xenophobic populism

in the age when we most need Global collaboration and a Global leadership.

This blog didn't meant to create panic or fear for the future but it just highlights some of the actual situation of the world right now. Sure there are many positive aspects of how we are dealing with such issues. But this blog only highlights those on which we may have to be a little more careful such as the Global collaboration.
